Phluid - 'Cynical Smile' (Spiky Black Cat)
The ten-legged Leeds beast gatecrash the ordinary gig like an even-more-primitive Queens of the Stone Age getting hot and sticky with their bay-bees, cack-heavy riffs counteracting their girth with enough energy to bounce off the walls like fluid Pong. They roll their 'R's like any self-respecting glamagers, tattooed and pierced as befits Kerrang readers, demonstrating mass appeal… although as this debut album wears on, their rock starts to blunt my appreciation due to much of the same musical cement being churned out. Full of sledgehammer tunes, but I never did enjoy DIY too much.
