Mayday Murders - 'Mayday Murders' (Fire Records EP)
With a name like this you're not gonna get jazz-pop sophistication: 'Don't Wanna Know' rocks like a rehearsal room teenage Stooges, 'The Outcome' is as good as the Strokes in a really shit studio - by this I mean that it sounds better than the Strokes. The drums crackle like air turbulence. Pure rock 'n' roll expression, with a little New Wave spikiness ('Sonic Vendetta') - if 'Shut Down' is so laid-back Jesus & Mary Chain that it could be a parody, it's one I would be laughing along with.
