Igloo demo (from
July 2002)
Yay! The latest demo from the experimentalist Hertfordshire/Brighton
quartet, boasting former members of Terrapin and a Big Day Outing, and
such celebriry feedback as Chris Eubank telling them "Don't give
me that, I'm not even going to lithen to thith thee-dee". Thilly
thod. This is melting headcheese music full of FX, industrial bass honed
to dirty perfection, and the occasional seaside piano. They take Primal
Scream's dark sun groove and turn their impenetrable muse into an apt
soundtrack for some mad robot sex manga, cranking out dancey stuff more
like variations on a theme than separate tracks. It's a bit like Super
Furry Animals without the songs. Just the base rave elements are needed
- the slower and quieter last song on this disc isn't so interesting.
The band are best met first in their live shirts but the home experience
is still worth purchasing, especially if you have a strobe of your own
to switch on while you listen (or a flashing light stolen from any nearby
skip).
