the Same' single (Domino)
The whimsical seaside men
return for the first time in ages and sound as if they just couldn't
wait to get out of the studio as they ride along on this juddery old
steam-train of a song. It's an old-school indie power-pop gem instantly
uplifting in spite of Jason Pegg's eternally glum David Gedge-does-Syd
Barrett vocals, refreshing in its snapshot of non-explicit love. "Well
I never / thought you and I / would be friends!" Well I never!
Perhaps it's one repeated verse or two longer than the punchiness of
the tune should have indicated, but that means it lasts long enough
for you to wake up completely if you play it first thing in the morning.
