Bearsuit – 'Chargr' (Fortuna Pop!) (Nov '04) I've not heard a more appropriate title in a while; it's even been spelt wrongg. It means Bearsuit are back with more deliciously skewed cartoon pop! If briefly; this song packs the punch and scope of a low-budget 'Bohemian Rhapsody' into under two minutes, a veritable riot of playground shouting and church-choir stillness ('Bohemian Rhapsody' is in fact fanzine shorthand for any song that has a lot of different parts to it, i.e. more than a verse-chorus-middle eight structure, whether it sounds anything like Queen or not). B-side 'What, You've Never Seen Snow Before?' takes the formula further: a dreamlike xylophone fantasy with near-acapella singing, "and somehow we're all in brown trousers;" then one small rousing finale, one of the best places to put a trumpet, as in ska-punk and in folk-pop and here on the end of another semi-glorious seven-inch single.
