Where Magoo
are concerned, the only trouble with a seven-inch is that they can't fit
enough songs on it. Their last single 'Can't Get Off the Ground Today',
on their own label May Go Zero, really whets my appetite for their forthcoming
fourth album. After their fuzzier leanings of old they've crafted a spacious
pop song swoonsome in a strange, hazy way like a small-budget Flaming
Lips covering Pink Floyd in the style of Al Green, but fitting on a bill
with any alt-country band of your choice, and not sounding like any of
these. It also makes me think of Love (the 60s band) or a Polyphonic Spree
of only five people. There's a great exuberance to it all.
